I recommend that all clients and taxpayers have an ID.me account. If you need to retrieve information for your account at IRS.gov, it is a simple way to get verified. Many times, when there are issues with your account, I recommend that you get transcripts for your account. (I can only retrieve them if I have a Power of Attorney on file for you). Having an ID.me account makes this very simple and painless! Also, if you are on Social Security or want to retrieve your account information, ID.me makes that process easier as well. It will take a few minutes to get verified and set up your account – you should have your driver’s license, passport or state issued ID card available when you set up your account.
The link for ID.me is https://api.id.me/en/session/new that will take you to the sign in page – if you do not have an account, you can click the link to Create an ID.me account.
